A Parquet Flooring Buying Guide: Import Buyer Checklist

This parquet flooring buying guide starts with one check: do the quote, pattern drawing, physical sample, and supporting documents all refer to the product you intend to order? A quote may identify the panel size but leave the oak face thickness unstated. A sample may show the right color but carry no finish reference. Ask the supplier to resolve those gaps in writing before issuing the purchase order. This gives the designer, distributor, and importer a shared record of what was approved.

1. Verify the Quoted Parquet Flooring Specifications

Ask for a specification tied to the product reference on the quote. List the pattern, face species, construction, panel length and width, total thickness, face thickness, grade, color, and finish as separate fields. This makes it easier to compare two quotes for the same design and catch differences that a short product name can hide.

The European oak engineered Versailles parquet flooring is a useful example. The multilayer engineered series lists three reference configurations: 600 × 600 × 15/3 mm, 800 × 800 × 15/4 mm, and 1000 × 1000 × 15/4 mm. All three list a total thickness of 15 mm, but the 600 mm panel has a 3 mm oak face in the listed configuration, while the other two have a 4 mm face. If a quote says only “15 mm Versailles,” ask for the full configuration. Confirm the size, grade, color, and finish combination for the pictured design; the series list alone does not confirm that combination.

2. Match the Pattern, Grade, and Finish to the Sample

Check the pattern drawing against the physical sample. For Versailles, look at the square frame and the interwoven diagonal pieces. A single panel can confirm the motif. Where the brief depends on how that motif repeats, review adjacent panels or a layout drawing that shows the repeat and perimeter. Record the drawing revision with the sample ID so a later layout change does not go unnoticed.

Ask for the written criteria behind the quoted grade. The series lists AB, ABC, and ABCD as options, but a grade label alone does not define the appearance the buyer has accepted. For example, do not write “knot-free” into an AB order unless that requirement has been expressly agreed. If several samples represent the acceptable range of color and grain, record their IDs together. The same applies to finish: UV lacquer, natural oil, and hard wax oil are listed series options. Identify the finish on the approved sample and confirm that it is the one quoted.

3. Check Which Documents Apply to the Order

Start with the destination market and any separate customer or project requirements. Ask the importer’s compliance contact or customs broker which documents need to be checked for this shipment. This is a procurement checklist; it does not establish that any particular certificate, report, or declaration is required for every market.

When the supplier provides a document, compare its named entity, product description, scope, and dates with the proposed order. If it names a broader product family or does not identify the quoted configuration, ask for written clarification of the link. A reference to FSC or CARB2 in general materials is not evidence that the proposed Versailles panel is covered. Keep the item open until the supporting document and its applicability have been reviewed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I place an order from a series specification sheet?

Use it to shortlist options. Before ordering, ask for written confirmation of the exact size, grade, color, and finish combination against the quoted product reference.

What if the approved sample has no finish label?

Record the sample ID and ask the supplier to identify the finish in writing. If that connection cannot be confirmed, keep finish approval open.

Can I use a certificate or report from another product in the same series?

Ask whether the document covers the proposed configuration and have the responsible reviewer check its scope. A shared series name alone is not enough to establish coverage.

What should I send with the first inquiry?

Send your company name, destination market or project location, target pattern, panel dimensions, color or finish reference, and estimated quantity. List any documents the buyer or project team has requested.

Discuss your parquet procurement requirements. Share your project or market, preferred specifications, estimated quantity, and any documentation requirements. If you already have a drawing or sample reference, include it so the discussion can focus on the exact configuration you intend to order.
