Custom Parquet Flooring: Confirming Pattern, Size and Color

For custom parquet flooring, confirm three things before ordering: the pattern on a drawing, the panel dimensions in a written specification, and the color and finish on a labeled physical sample. Link all three in the final approval record. That way, the designer can identify the layout they approved, the distributor can quote the right configuration, and the buyer can check that the purchase order reflects both decisions.

1. Confirm the Pattern and Where It Will Repeat

Start with a reference image and a marked floor plan. Annotate the image to show what you want to retain. For a Versailles pattern, for example, you might want to keep the square frame and interwoven diagonal pieces while reviewing the frame width. If a second image is only a color reference, label it accordingly so the supplier does not read it as a request to change the pattern.

Then mark the main viewing direction and the limits of the parquet area. Show doorways, borders, and transitions to adjacent materials. A drawing of one panel can confirm the motif; a room layout shows how the motif repeats and where it will be cut off. If the frame is a key part of the design, decide whether a partial frame at the perimeter is acceptable or whether the starting line or border needs another review.

2. Turn the Layout into a Panel Specification

Record panel length and width separately from total thickness and face thickness. State which dimensions are fixed and which can change if the first layout leaves an awkward edge. Include the estimated area by zone, and distinguish it from the quantity you intend to order. If measurements or quantities are provisional, mark them clearly on the inquiry.

The European oak engineered Versailles parquet flooring is an example of a framed pattern in a multilayer engineered construction. Series references include 600 × 600 × 15/3 mm, 800 × 800 × 15/4 mm, and 1000 × 1000 × 15/4 mm. In these references, 15/3 means 15 mm total thickness with a 3 mm oak face; 15/4 means 15 mm total thickness with a 4 mm oak face. If you need a different size or a change to the pattern, submit the target dimensions and drawing. Confirm which size, grade, color, and finish can be supplied together for the pictured design.

3. Approve Color and Finish on a Physical Sample

Use photographs or material boards to communicate the intended color. For final approval, lay the physical sample flat beside the project’s wall, stone, or cabinetry samples and view it under the intended lighting. On a framed pattern, check the color of the outer frame and the inner pieces together. A color that looks right on a small swatch may still need to be reviewed on a sample that shows more of the pattern.

Record the sample ID and the finish agreed for that sample. If the team is approving a range of color and grain variation, identify the samples that represent that range. If the color is accepted but the finish or panel size is still open, record exactly what was approved. A color sign-off should not be treated as approval of the full configuration.

4. Cross-Check the Approvals Before Ordering

Put the drawing, written specification, and sample record side by side. If one changes after approval, ask whether the other two still apply. For example, a revised border detail may require a new drawing, while a finish change calls for another look at the color reference. Keep the latest approved version with the purchase order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use one image for the pattern and another for the color?

Yes. Label each image with the detail it represents. This helps the supplier distinguish the motif you want from the color direction you want to review.

Can I change the panel size and keep the same pattern?

Submit the target size and identify which parts of the pattern must stay. Review the revised drawing to confirm how the frame and inner motif will look at the new scale.

Does approving a color sample approve the whole order?

Only if the approval explicitly covers the entire configuration. Record the approved sample alongside the agreed dimensions, finish, and drawing revision, and list anything still open.

What should I send for an initial review?

Send your company name, project type or target market, estimated area, preferred panel dimensions, and annotated pattern and color references. Include a floor plan or dimensioned sketch if available.

Discuss your custom parquet requirements. Share your preferred pattern, panel size, color direction, and estimated quantity. A marked plan or sample reference will help identify which details are ready to confirm and which still need review.
